Linux connection guide

Notes for Linux

  1. ANU-Secure should work on any linux distribution running a recent version of Gnome Network Manager
  2. We only provide instructions for Ubuntu as the process will be similar for all distributions

Steps

Configuring & Connecting

  1. Click the Gnome Connection Manager dropdown
  2. Select ANU-Secure
  3. Change authentication settings
  4. Click Connect
  5. Connection Details

Guide

1. Click the Gnome Connection Manager dropdown

This is the icon with the two arrows in the Gnome panel

2. Select ANU-Secure

NOTE: You must be in range of an ANU-Secure network for it to appear

3. Change authentication settings

A settings window will appear. Copy the settings shown in the image below

Enter your normal Univeristy ID and password, do not include the domain '@anu.edu.au'.
For CA Certificate, browse to /etc/ssl/certs and select AddTrust_External_Root.pem as shown below:

NOTE: A common problem with Ubuntu is certificate validation failing. In the case of an issue you can check this is the right certificate by checking it's fingerprint. See the known issue.

4. Click Connect

If successful a message window will appear like below:

5. Connection Details

When seeking support always include your MAC (Hardware) Address and IP Address. These can be obtained by right-clickling on the Gnome Connection Manager dropdown and selecting Connection Information
